A bank account lets you safely receive money, pay for things and manage bills. The most suitable account depends on your age and circumstances.

  1. Compare youth, current or basic bank accounts. If you are under 18, a children’s or young person’s account may be more suitable.
  2. Check the bank’s own list of accepted identity and address documents. If you do not have the usual documents, ask which alternatives it accepts.
  3. Read the fees, cash-withdrawal rules and overdraft rules before agreeing.
  4. Keep your PIN, password and security codes private—even from friends.
